According to the annual Freelance in America Survey, 64 percent of freelancers found work through an online platform in 2018. Technology has made life easier for freelancers as they collect clients from across seas, or right around the corner, at the click of a button.

The study, conducted by an independent research firm and commissioned in a partnership by Upwork and Freelancers Union, surveyed more than 6,000 US workers. In its fifth annual year, findings show that Americans are spending more than 1 billion hours per week freelancing.
